It’s not that I don’t love my men; I’m surrounded by them – even the dog is male! The last few years have been filled with sweaty gyms, dusty ball fields and endless fart jokes, so it was time to get back to some of the things I love — exotic beauty, international travel and gorgeous fashions.
Before I had my son, Nick, I loved traveling the world working in marketing and brand management for the Miss Universe Organization. Sometimes I feel like I was too young to appreciate all the exceptionally cool things I was fortunate enough to do and too stupid to know just how dangerous some of it was! We survived an earthquake in Mexico, a military coup in Thailand, and a bomb threat in the Philippines, all the while delicately negotiating the ever-changing foreign relations dictating which contestants could and could not share a hotel room. I’ve had the pleasure to meet kings and film stars, athletes and animals as well as with some of the most beautiful and charming young women from across the globe.
My life is different now and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love being a “boy Mom,” but I miss working with “my girls.” Being able to seek out fabulous designers from various parts of the world, help a mother and daughter decide on an appropriate prom dress, style a first-time pageant contestant or send someone confidently down the aisle or down the red carpet brings back great memories and lets me make wonderful new ones.
